Introduction

There are times when you may want a specific page or directory to remain completely untouched by Ezoic. This is common for sensitive areas like login portals, checkout pages, or pages with highly specific formatting that shouldn't be altered by AI testing. By using Excluded Pages, you tell Ezoic to ignore these URLs entirely, allowing your origin server to serve them directly to the user without any modification.

Excluded Pages settings are found in the dashboard under Settings > Content > Excluded Pages.

When to use Excluded Pages vs. Disable Ads:

  • Use "Excluded Pages" if you want to turn off everything (Leap, Video, EzoicAds, etc.) for a specific URL.

  • Use "Disable Ads" (under Ad Restrictions) if you want the page to stay fast and optimized by Leap, but you just don't want ads to show.

Steps

1. Adding a Single Page Exclusion

  1. Navigate to Settings > Content > Excluded Pages.

  2. Click + Add Excluded URL.

  3. Enter the URL path only (everything after your domain).

    • Example: For https://mysite.com/contact/, enter /contact/. Always include the trailing slash.

  4. Click Add Excluded Page.

2. Excluding Entire Directories

If you want to exclude a whole category (e.g., all pages under /shop/):

  1. In the exclusion setup, select Directory from the Rule Target dropdown.

  2. Enter the directory path (e.g., /shop/).

  3. Any page starting with that path will now be excluded from Ezoic.

3. Advanced Exclusions (Regex & Meta Tags)

  • URL Regex: For complex patterns, select "URL Regex" from the dropdown to create dynamic exclusion rules.

  • Meta Tag Rules: Click the Meta Tag Rules tab to exclude pages that contain a specific snippet of code in the <head> (e.g., excluding all pages where meta name="category" content="private" is present).

Troubleshooting

The page is still showing Ezoic features

  • Cache: Exclusions can take up to 20 minutes to propagate. Clear your site cache and check the page in an Incognito window.

  • Path Error: Ensure you didn't include the full domain (http://...) in the box. Only the path (e.g., /example/) should be entered.

  • Integration Check: For JavaScript-integrated sites, ensure the exclusion is set correctly in the dashboard; the script will check the URL and "self-terminate" on any excluded path.

FAQs

Will I still see analytics for excluded pages?

Because Ezoic's script is disabled on these pages, data for excluded URLs will not appear in Big Data Analytics. You should rely on Google Analytics for traffic data on excluded paths.

Can I exclude pages by device type?

No, Excluded Pages apply to all devices. If you only want to turn off ads for Mobile but keep them for Desktop, use Ad Restriction Rulesets instead.
