Introduction

While Ezoic's artificial intelligence optimizes ad placements for revenue and user experience, there are often specific pages where a publisher may wish to disable advertising entirely. Whether it is a landing page with a singular call-to-action, a legal disclosure page, or a specific category of content, the Ezoic dashboard provides granular controls to exclude ad serving based on URL paths, subdomains, or custom site metadata.

Overview

1. Navigate to Ad Restrictions

  1. Log in to your Ezoic dashboard.

  2. Navigate to EzoicAds > Ad Restrictions.

  3. Locate the Page Rules section.

2. Creating a URL or Directory Rule

  1. Click the "+" (plus) icon to create a new rule.

  2. In the dropdown menu, select URL.

  3. Choose the Rule Type:

    • Page Rule: Applies only to the exact URL provided.

    • Directory Rule: Applies to the provided path and every page nested within that path (e.g., /shop/ would disable ads on every product page).

  4. Enter the URL path. This is everything following the domain name, starting with the first slash.

    • Example (Homepage): /

    • Example (Contact Page): /contact-us/

  5. Click Create Rule.

3. Alternative Restriction Methods

You can also disable ads using the following criteria from the dropdown menu:

  • Cookie: Enter the specific Name and Value of a cookie. If that cookie is present in the user's browser, ads will not serve.

  • Meta Tag: Enter the Name and Content of a meta tag. This is useful for disabling ads across entire categories of content via a CMS.

  • Subdomain: Enter the name of a specific subdomain (e.g., store) to suppress ads across that entire section of the site.

  • Query Parameter: Disable ads when specific strings appear in the URL (e.g., ?utm_source=email).

Troubleshooting

Ads Still Showing on Designated URL

  • Propagation Time: Rules can take approximately 10–15 minutes to implement across the network.

  • Cache Issues: If it has been longer than 15 minutes, try clearing your browser cache or viewing the page in an Incognito window to ensure you aren't seeing a stale version of the page.

  • Rule Accuracy: Verify that you selected URL (and not Directory) if you only wanted to target one page. Double-check that the URL path was entered correctly, starting with a forward slash /.

Rule Won't Save in Dashboard

  • Session Timeout: Try logging out of your Ezoic account, clearing your browser cookies, and logging back in.

  • Duplicate Rules: Ensure you aren't trying to create a rule that already exists or conflicts with an existing directory rule.

FAQs

Will I still see data for the visit in Big Data Analytics?

Yes. Ezoic will still track the visit and user behavior data even if ads are disabled. The page will simply report $0.00 in revenue.

What if I want to disable just one specific ad location?

In the Ad Restrictions page, find the "Ad Position Rules" to block a specific ad location on a specific page or directory ruleset.
